Memory Avoidance

December 12th, 2005

So the other day I was thinking about Taco Bueno. Yeah, that sounds gay but I was thinking about the one year that I refused to eat there. The only reason being my ex. During my senior year, and for about 2 years after that, I dated a girl named Julee and during that time my favorite place to eat was Taco Bueno. We tended to eat there almost ever single day and it never seemed to get on my nerves or get old. Well, after we broke up I didn’t eat there for well over a year.

I had always thought that it was because the relationship ended badly, as I was on the verge of a mental breakdown before I ended it. That was, until I realized that for over a year now I have subconsciously avoided The Olive Garden. You see, that was where my ex Michelle and I ate all the time. I had never really eaten there a lot until I was with her. It’s not that the place had great food, I only really liked one entree there. It’s just that was kind of like our place to eat. Well, it has been a year and two three weeks since she left me and I haven’t even come close to that restaurant since then.

Does anyone else avoid common places like that only because they remind you of an ex, or some other not-so-good memories?

I brought this up to Good Golly Miss Molly Crowe last night around 2:30 AM and asked her thoughts on the situation. She had some great advice from an experience of her own. She told me that she had a place like that, and she simply made new memories of the place…. Good memories.

So my goal is to some day soon take a trip to The Olive Garden with a friend and make a new good memory of the restaurant so that I may once again enjoy their fabulous salad and breadsticks… With wine… Wine is mandatory for this activity apparently. Now the question is….. Who?

I’m glad the who question was not suddenly answered with a response of, JUSTIN! JUSTIN! Because I am not the biggest fan of the Olive Garden, simply because of the quality of food itself. However, if you need to build a new thought for Bueno, you know I’m game!

I say we go in there with Chicken Nuggets and throw them at the employees and yell something ridiculous, okay that was a joke, but would be kind of funny.

Does this article have a point? KIDDING!!!
