Catching Up On Current Events

February 12th, 2006

I haven’t got around to updating about the trip to Kansas City that Justin and I took… I’ve actually just been lazy!

So last weekend Justin and I took a journey to see our old high school friend Dustin. We left the night of Thursday the 2nd with energy drinks in hand. We got a little detoured on the way there but thanks to some quick action with the notebook and GPS, we got back on track. We arrived at Dustin’s apartment around 3AM, chatted for a bit then went to sleep.

The next day Dustin had to work so Justin and I decided to venture downtown to explore. We took a ton of pictures and saw a lot of cool stuff. We stopped at Union Station where we toured a railroad exhibit where we walked through a large train and saw all the different types of cars, it was kind of cool! We drove around some more, taking pictures of whatever interested us, and eventually after hours of sight seeing ended up at a casino. Justin and I sat down at a table and played “Texas Holdem Bonus” for hours on end. I didn’t know when to quit and I lost all my winnings. If I had just stopped I could have funded my entire trip with the winnings!!!

Earlier in the day I had gotten in contact with my old best friend Doug. Doug and I were best friend from kindergarten up until he moved away in high school. It had been several years since I had seen him so I was making every effort to see him while I was there since he lives close to Kansas City. We decided to go to a district called Westport. It is kind of party central… Lots of bars, food, people, and excitement. We first went to a place called Buzzard Beach… now imagine being below deck on a pirate ship, low ceilings, wood floor, walls, everything. Very dark and dirty, but still fun. I watched as Doug and his friends finished playing foosball and considered playing shuffleboard before we left.

We decided to jump ship and head across the street to a bar called “Kelly’s”. Kelly’s was a very LOOOOONG bar. I would guess it was 15 yards wide and 40-50 yards long, with two bars and a pizza joint! I tried the pizza and it was good, Doug even made me try it with honey which seemed to be a Kelly’s thing. After that we made our way through the crowd (it was ridiculous) and got outside. I stopped to take a picture with Doug outside and Justin snapped a shot. A passing bum got really excited about the picture and approached singing my praises. He apparently heard someone say my name because he started jabbering “why Scott, I think that’s the best picture I ever did see… that was such a great picture! Come on, let’s take another!” He posed with Dustin and I, and some girls passing by wanted to join in on the picture as well. We got a group shot, ran away before the guy bummed money off of us, and said farewell to Doug, and Westport. We think the homeless dude jacked Dustin’s debit card because it hasn’t been seen since! We made our way back to Dustin’s apartment, played some poker, drank some beer, and went to sleep.

Next came Saturday. Dustin had the weekend off so we headed straight for the casino. We again sat and played Texas Holdem Bonus… And again I didn’t know when to stop. I was up over a hundred dollars and then lost all my winnings again (I’ll never learn). We went back to Dustin’s apartment for a bit and then drove across the Kansas border to Dave & Busters. We arrived, and when we could not find a place to eat we left in search of food. With 20 restaurants in the area, surprisingly we could not find a place to eat (THIS PLACE WAS PACKED)! We settled on some BBQ joint and proceeded to get the largest portions I have ever received (Justin didn’t like his food though). We went back to Dave & Busters and started playing video games. At first we had to compete with all the kids, but later it was all adults.

Now let me just say that inebriated arcading is by far one of the most entertaining things I have ever done. It didn’t hurt that there was plenty of eye candy throughout the evening either. After several hours of gaming, we cashed in the few coupons we had won and got some shot glasses and ash trays. We then headed back to Dustin’s apartment for more beer and poker.

Sunday Justin and I woke up and headed home. It was a rather uneventful trip home…. well, other than the run-in with the highway patrol :-]

Now the past week I have been slacking on the job hunt, but enjoying spending time with my best friends Justin and Nick. I can’t seem to sleep lately though… Lots of bad dreams. I haven’t remembered any dreams for years, but in the past few weeks they have been very vivid, and not very pleasant. I am not looking forward to Valentines day… I’ll probably either go to a bar, or sit at home and watch some war movies alone (saweeeeeeet!)
