Quality Time
September 24th, 2006I’ve been kind of stressed lately with news that the shop I am working at will be closing soon and the wonderul joys of single life. I really needed to get my mind off things. There was an event in Disney Oklahoma this weekend so I decided to go out there and enjoy myself. I hadn’t been wheeling in my own jeep in over a year and it was driving me nuts. I got to take my older brother David with me which made it all the better. We left Friday night and took his Boxer, Meshack, with us on the trip. We had a great time night-wheeling friday with a few guys from my group and then had the worst time trying to sleep. It rained so hard around 2AM (right when we were going to bed) that I didn’t sleep more than an hour or two all night.
Saturday we woke up and got some breakfast then got ready for the day. The event was a novice run. A novice run is basically setup for people who have offroad vehicles, but haven’t been wheeling, to go on a guided trail ride to get used to the feeling. I helped by following the pack to watch out for any stragglers and help anyone having trouble. David had never been offroading on an actual trail ride or rock crawling so I let him drive a bit. We played a bit in the rock garden, which is just a big open area of rock with some big obstacles.
Today there was a Trial Bike competition. I had no idea this event was going on so it was a pleasant surprise. Trial bikes are like dirt bikes in a way, but with a different frame and no seat. The things these guys can do on these bikes is unbelieveable. They can climb obstacles on one wheel that I can’t traverse with my Jeep. We enjoyed the show before packing up to head home this afternoon.
All in all it was a great trip. I got to spend time with my brother, go camping, see friends, and go wheeling. It was a nice break from reality. Soon I’ll have to find a new job and adjust to a new place. Hopefully I can get weekends off so I can make little getaways like this more often. Now it’s time for some sleep.
