Songs That Make You Feel Good?

October 3rd, 2006

I spent this evening with my two best friends in the universe, Justin and Nick watching football and working on their computers. It was actually quite fun just sitting around griping at each other about how we were working on the different parts. I came home kinda late after Justin went to bed, and Nick started working on home work. I was in the mood to listen to some music. I started picking out random songs and noticed I was apparently in the mood for some ‘feel-good’ songs. I decided to put together a list of songs that make me just plain feel good, and make me want to be with people I care about. So here it goes in no particular order.

â–ª Israel Kamakawiwo’ole - Somewhere Over The Rainbow (if you’re young you’ll remember this from movies like ‘50 first dates’)
â–ª The Fray - All At Once
â–ª Aqualung - Brighter Than Sunshine (just plain wonderful piano)
â–ª Red Hot Chili Peppers - Hard To Concentrate (you have to hear it to appreciate how amazing the lyrics are)
â–ª Counting Crows - Mr. Jones
â–ª Shinedown - Simple Man (yes, i know Lynard Skynard did it first.. but I like shinedowns version better)
â–ª Guns N Roses - Sweet Child O’ Mine
â–ª James Blunt - Wisemen
â–ª John Legend - Ordinary People (once again, amazing piano, vocals and lyrics
â–ª Oasis - Live Forever
â–ª Oasis - Champagne Supernova (listened to this a lot in highschool and it reminds me of those times hanging out with my best friends)
â–ª Lauryn Hill - Killing Me Softly (i like her cover best)

I got in a better mood until I started thinking about a friend who passed away recently. I grew up playing baseball with a close group of guys… We were on the same team together for over 5 years, this young man was one of my teammates. If you went to Union you may have known Michael Toney. Michael passed away on September 15th. I didn’t talk to him much after he transferred to Victory Christian, but I still feel the impact of his death. I am so damn tired of losing people so young. I really feel for his family, his father is a great guy and doesn’t deserve to lose a son. I know death is a part of life, but… too young.

I guess I’ll throw in some songs that sometimes bring a tear to my eye. These are definitely not ‘bad’ songs. In fact, they are all amazing songs that stir up a lot of emotions in me for various reasons. (still no particular order)

â–ª Guns N Roses - November Rain (very long, but very worth listening to)
â–ª Hinder - Lips Of An Angel (just something about lost love that gets to me)
â–ª James Blunt - Tears And Rain
â–ª James Blunt - Goodbye My Lover (you’ve most likely heard this one)
â–ª James Blunt - Billy
â–ª Tim McGraw - Please Remember Me (one of the few country songs I like)
â–ª The Fray - How To Save A Life
â–ª Eric Clapton - My Fathers Eyes
â–ª Eric Clapton - Tears In Heaven
â–ª Luther Vandross - Dance With My Father (reminds me how important my father is to me and how much he has taught me)
â–ª Counting Crows - A Long December (just plain makes me miss people for some reason)
â–ª Red Hot Chili Peppers - She Looks To Me
â–ª Michael Joncas - On Eagles Wings (sung at my grandmothers funeral, gets me every time)
â–ª Pearl Jam - Last Kiss (their rendition is my favorite)
â–ª Johnny Cash - Hurt (yes, his cover is better than N.I.N.)
â–ª Blink 182 - Adams Song
â–ª Alice In Chains - Don’t Follow

There are definitely many more, but these come to mind right away. These are all on my ‘favorite songs’ list. If you haven’t heard any of the songs on the lists I strongly suggest it.

What songs cheer you up, or cause other emotions? Reply with your list, or single song.

First realize your list of sad songs outnumbers your happy songs. Either stop listening to the sad ones or get some more happy ones. Also what is this German next to the comment box, remove it, it scares me.

I see nothing wrong with the ’sad’ songs outnumbering the ‘feel good’ songs. There are thousands of other songs that just do absolutely nothing for me emotionally but are still great songs. To me, music is only good if it expresses some sort of emotion… and it seems that pain (emotional) is expressed more than other emotions.

I just wanted to give a list of songs I love to listen to, nothing more.

    Your site looks like Halloween.

  4. Scott Says:

    Festive, isn’t it?

  5. Nick Says:

    I like the new look.

  6. Scott Says:

Thank you Nick. The blue was orange, and that’s where the Halloween comment came from. I decided to change it to a color I like better.

  7. molly Says:

I like it too… both Halloween and blue. Maybe you should keep it orange for October. Maybe you could switch it up every month.

    Or blue is good too.

  8. Scott Says:

Thanks Molly. I haven’t decided if I want to be festive or not yet. I’ll figure it out soon.
